LockDown Browser Installation on Mac (Complete 2026 Guide)
Installing LockDown Browser on Mac always starts from your university's LMS, never the public Respondus website. The installer is a notarised Developer-ID-signed .dmg of 50-90 MB that requires admin authentication on macOS Sonoma and later. LDB 2.0+ is a native Universal Binary and does not need Rosetta on Apple Silicon; only legacy 1.x requires Rosetta 2. Below: every LMS-specific install path, plus the most common gotchas.
The standard install flow on macOS
- Sign in to your LMS and navigate to the course that uses LockDown Browser.
- Open the assessment that requires LDB. Click "Launch LockDown Browser" or "Download LockDown Browser".
- Click the download link. Browser receives
LockDownBrowserOEM-Mac-2-1-5-01.dmg(filename varies by build). - Open the .dmg. macOS verifies the notarisation ticket (~2-5 seconds).
- Double-click the installer package. Authenticate with admin password.
- Installer copies
LockDown Browser.appto/Applications. - Eject .dmg, return to LMS, click "Launch LockDown Browser".
- Approve TCC dialogs (Camera, Microphone, Screen Recording) on first launch.
